Wash Me Clean
by cathyannelaine
An essay about caring for my grandmother during her Alzheimer’s illness. It’s about the way we forget who our loved ones were before they got sick. Please go to Hippocampus Magazine to read it! Thank you!

Wow! This is so beautiful and moving!
Thank you, Natasha. You rock. 🙂
Stumbled upon the essay – read it – followed link here – gotta let you know it’s beautifully written; you were able to share a universally dreaded part of elder care and lessen that dread considerably in others – thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It really touches me. Thank you.
“Our” love ones, my dear author. 🙂 I’m proud of you anyway! Tom

This memoir moved me deeply, and like another poster above, I followed your link to let you know. As writers, even ones that might see the light of day in a journal, we often send our darlings out into a vacuum. This piece was heard, and felt and admired. Beautiful work.
Pamela, I can’t express how touching your words are. Thank you for taking the time to read and reach out. I needed that today!
Cathy
I’m so glad my timing was fortuitous, and that you know that this piece is special–I linked it on my FB page. And, I just found out today that I will have my own piece featured in Hippocampus in January! It’s a happy thrill to be in your company. 🙂
Wonderful news, Pamela! I read your essay on the Security guy last weekend and put the link up on Twitter. It was a great, but sad, story. Can’t wait to read your work in January!! I’ll share!
Thank you so much for sharing Secret Agent Man, Cathy! I am so grateful when my work is read. Surely our most riveting stories feel like ordinary life when they happen, then later the magnitude slams us (as with your piece about washing your gram). I will happily be following your progress as a published writer as well. BTW, my husband is a Denver native–such a beautiful state,
Yes, a beautiful place to live! You are right about our stories… And it’s healing to others to read them, too. I look forward to reading your piece in January! Can’t wait!!
Cathy, I just learned that you’ve been nominated for a Pushcart Prize for you poignant Wash Me Clean, congratulations!!!
Thank you so much Pamela! Wow, I’m surprised you found out! Yes, it’s wonderful news letting me know I’m hopefully on the right track with writing. It’s wonderful to have the editor support the piece. I’m very grateful to her. Thank you for taking the time to stop by. It means a lot.
That should read, “your” poignant … typo. sorry.
I’m typo Queen, ha ha.
